In 2013, the Pretrial Services Office implemented in-house Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT), which is a cognitive behavioral treatment (CBT) program. Four pretrial services officers are certified to facilitate MRT groups, two of which have been certified in Advanced MRT Training. While all SAIL participants are required to complete MRT, defendants and pretrial divertees are also referred for MRT for various reasons. Defendants who begin serving their sentences prior to their completion of the MRT program should be permitted to continue their MRT work through the Probation Office or Federal Bureau of Prisons. The in-house MRT program has proved to be a cost-effective treatment program for the Pretrial Services Office.
